HAPPY NEW YEAR! {and a Blog Hop freebie}

This has been one heck of a year for me and my family! I hope y’all had a wonderful Christmas and looking forward to what’s to come in 2010.

We had a nice Christmas {even though my Mom was in the hospital}. She came home Monday evening and passed away after only being home 5 hours. We are having services for her this Saturday, Jan 2nd at 1pm. It has been a struggle for me to say “Goodbye” to her because she was my BEST friend! But I know she’s not in any more pain and with her family that passed before her. Thank you to all my amazing family & friends that have sent loving messages to me. I am so grateful. ♥

Ok I don’t want to dwell on the sadness right now because today is the beginning of a New Year and new beginnings!

My FUN week, Layout & FREEBIE

Do you remember THIS post {about the AMAZING David Bowman prints}?

Well, I got my signed David Bowman print {"Innocence"} in the mail TODAY!!!! Yippeeee!!

Thank you, David. It's even more BEAUTIFUL in person!!!

Today I had lunch at Subway {grabbed a turkey sub with my Mom}. LOVE that place! I also couldn't resist & stopped by Sprout's for a treat for the kiddos. Once in a while I'll get some yogurt or chocolate covered pretzels or gummy worms for them. Today I got some fresh Jordan Almonds. {candy coated almonds} Mmmmm. Anson says that Ashley will only like the PINK ones! hahaha

Had girls night last night. Usually a big group of us, but turned out to be only Alicia, Julie & me. We saw Bride Wars. It was SO CUTE!!! Fun evening!

Monday, we went hiking. It was the most beautiful day! We went to Usery Pass to hike Scarface. Usually we stop once we hit the Wind Caves, but we decided to continue to the top for the first time. It was rugged & some rock climbing {not too bad though & not very far to the top}. The kids did AWESOME!! Oh my gosh! It was AMAZING on the very top! It was really cool because there was a Mesa Police helicopter that was below us and circled around the mountain back towards us. We took pictures & waved and they came up high & really close & waved back! The kids LOVED it too! It's the closest we've ever been to a helicopter!

If you go to their site, they also have fun KID activities. I want to check those out. There was a hiker that I chatted with and she told me about the program. She's also a volunteer. They sound FUN!!

I scrapped!!

We were roasting marshmallows in our fireplace a couple weeks ago on a chilly night. It was FUN & Yummy!! Ashley liked roasting hers {barely} and then eating the marshmallows out of a bowl. I scraplifted KimB's Magic of Christmas layout for the DSO Scraplift Challenge.

I made this layout using the mini kit that I created for the DSO Color Challenge.

STAR, P.E., Contest, My Catalog

Ashley is *STAR* of the week in her class! She was so excited to answer some silly questions about herself & bring in a couple pictures of herself to show the class this week! WOOHOOO!!! I'm so proud of you sweetie!!!

Tuesday evening, Ben & I went with Ashley to learn about her P.E. at school. It was fun because they had all the kids & their parents doing some fun exercises & games! I guess to show us what they do in class. I don't remember P.E. being that fun! Well, maybe when I was in 1st grade it was that fun! Like we did push ups, then ran around, did ab crunches, and hula-hoop'ed. Oh we also bounced around balloons - ours was pink of course - no other color would be acceptable! haha Oh can't forget about learning to do the *chicken* dance! {totally reminds me of Jimmy Neutron the movie} LOL

Nathaniel & Felicia said that they get to do that in P.E. too sometimes! Ok, what happened to the dreaded square dancing??? Did you have to do that in grade school, especially grades 4-6? We did on rainy days & for a few weeks in the winter! Yuck! I always hated that! It was only somewhat OK if you got to be next to the cute guy you liked. But of course, I think that only happened ONCE! I always got the icky guy who liked me in my group and did NOT want to let go of my hand! Eeeewwwww! Oh the wonderful memories! hahahaha

Don't know what happened but we all woke up super late today! I'm talking 8:20 and they're supposed to be IN their class at 8:30! I ran around telling them 5 MINUTES!!! HURRY!!! Ashley tends to panic in high-stress situations and when I say panic, I mean her OCD {obsessive-compulsive disorder} totally kicks in! Poor girl. But that didn't help our racing around. We got out the door at 8:30, everyone dressed, teeth brushed, hair combed, lunches packed, backpacks on & said our morning family prayer plus I had to get dressed & get Anson dressed to go! I dropped them off at the office to get their late passes to class. I hope they have an OK day in spite of our morning!

Friends4Food Project & Contest

As the holidays are approaching, I usually try to do a little something extra to help those in need. Well, this year, Bunny wanted to do something BIGGER, so she is organizing the Friends4Food Project that anyone can join. The whole goal is to get more people donating all over the world. Plus, if you decide to help, you can be entered into her contest for ONE lucky winner to receive a HUGE box of craft goodies!

OK, so here's what you have to do:
1. Donate food to your local food bank.
2. Go home and blog about it.
